Sitges Prepares a Campaign to Relaunch Tourism

The Sitges Town Council’s Department of Tourism is working to recover the tourist market once the Covid-19 crisis is over.

Given the current circumstances, the projected Action Plan has been reassessed and we have started to take measures to channel the destination’s promotion, from a generic as well as a specific perspective of programs, among which the Sitges Convention Bureau is included.

With a view to recovering the tourist market, the Department of Tourism is working in coordination with the Barcelona Diputación (its Provincial Council) and the Catalan Tourism Agency to join forces and propose new promotional activities to reinforce Sitges’ presence in different channels and international markets. Other actions, such as attending industry fairs and meetings in person are, for the moment, awaiting the evolution of the situation and the joint decisions that might be made regarding the brands Barcelona is Much More and Catalonia.

However, in terms of neighboring markets, work is also underway to launch Sitges’ own campaign, both online and offline. The goal is to generate brand awareness and recognition for a destination that is preparing to recover all the energy and vitality that characterizes it, following the lock down. In this regard, priority is being given to nearby markets such as the national market, southern France and Andorra. To accomplish this planning, we’ve taken into account the private sector’s contributions and the Tourist Profile studies conducted last summer, including both surveys and data analysis via cell phones.

To provide the most accurate information possible on the current situation with regard to tourism, Tourism’s website has been given greater visibility in the news and useful information section and links to the referential websites can also be consulted. With a view to the local tourism sector, direct communication channels are being established with the business community to inform them of the situation and possible impact on the sector.

Through the official Sitges Tourism website www.sitgesanytime.com and the associated social networks, you can check the latest updates on local services and events.

On Social Media sites such as Instagram and Facebook, publications are focusing on inspirational content with the intention of conveying positive images, while calling on followers to stay confined at home so that they can visit Sitges later on. The Twitter content is more professional and focuses on the new developments arising day to day.

The Department of Tourism has also worked on a new audiovisual content to promote the destination. That content is available at the Department of Tourism Youtube Channel in 4 languages.

Adaptation of the Department’s Service

The Department’s staff, following the guidelines adopted by the Sitges Town Council, are performing their tasks online, adjusting to organizational needs at all times. Following these same guidelines, the Tourist Information Office is closed to the public until further notice. However, tourists’ and visitors' email inquiries are still being answered via the e-mail address turisme@sitges.cat  and Sitges’ social networks @TurismedeSitges; Instagram: @sitgesturisme; Facebook: @turismedesitges.
